Charitable Bequests: Choose From Four Easy Methods
Making a bequest to Adventures in Caring is not only a sign of benevolence,
it is also the mark of your desire to help shape the future. Along with tax
benefits, you will leave a legacy of compassion and joy.
Here are five popular ways to make a difference:
1. Direct Bequest.
An unrestricted gift allows Adventures in Caring (AiC) to apply the
funds to our most pressing needs. You simply bequeath to us a specific sum of
money or other asset. Then our governing board will determine the best use of
your bequest.
2. Percentage or Residue.
You may choose to leave AiC a percentage of your estate or the “rest,
residue and remainder” of your estate after all other bequests, debts
and taxes have been paid. A percentage will compensate for any changes in the
value of your estate over time.
3. Life Income Plan.
One such plan, a charitable remainder trust, provides that the trustee hold
and invest a principal amount and pay a fixed or variable amount to one or more
named beneficiaries for their lifetimes or a term of years. After that, the
remainder is distributed to a charitable organization like AiC. Life income
plans can provide your estate with tax savings.
4. Memorial Fund.
You can establish a permanent memorial fund in your name or that of
another person, with the income to be used as you direct. The principal will
be invested and will continue to provide support to the organization in perpetuity.
